Monodiet therapy

-->

Mono( one)diet( for a period of time) is a term that may scare your ego, simply because for the ego, it may imply discipline, determination and detachment. On the other hand it is very self-empowering  simply because it provides a direction to apply your will power.

The mono diet which detoxifies and  rebuilds body tissues is far from being a new concept for healing. As a matter of fact mono diets naturally occurred when we lived closer to the rhythms and cycles of the earth.
Before we had the availability of foods from different parts of the globe, we were eating only what was in season and what our environment provided.
Mono diets have also been  very well used among seekers, yogis and sadhus who have been interested in their benefits of body purification and stability of the mind.
Mono diets give the body a break from heavy digestion. This break facilitates healing in other organs and allows for full body tissue regeneration.
The most common mono diet is with kachari, (mung dhal and rice) the perfect protein soup, which, depending of the spices and vegetables used, determines the healing effects of the therapy.
Mono diets can be done for a short period of time, 1 to 3 days, for 40 days, or for your whole life.
I have been practicing mono diets for almost 15 years and have found that their cleansing effects always  guaranty a much clearer and renewed sense of perception, both mentally and spiritually. My mind gets calmer, my emotions flow evenly  and my body appreciates the simplicity of the food.

What I most appreciate by practicing mono diets is “the let go” aspect of the therapy. If any emotion or negative  thought patterns are trapped in my head, I simply demonstrate to my ego who  the master is by putting this discipline in motion.

Another aspect that I appreciate about mono diets is that they give me the opportunity to  know the effects of different foods. For example if I am eating only zucchini kachari for 3 o 4 days I can sense the subtle effect of that food. It becomes even more evident if I incorporate a different food or spice. It is no secret for example that eating garlic effects the mind making it difficult to meditate and to maintain the state of awareness you may want.
Mono diets can be done by eating  only one vegetable or fruit. For instance I have done retreats where we only ate beets, or bananas to achieve an awareness of the energy of those foods as well as gaining their healing benefits.
The emotional result of the mono diet therapy is detachment from the seductions of the sense of taste. It gives endurance, one pointed mind and stamina.
The stabilization of the mind process and the break they provide for the physical body, support the opening of new perceptions and the ability to hold a frequency of purity and neutrality.
Since mono diets provide such a deep and serious cleansing, they are suggested for people who have already followed some other type of detoxifying program. Some mono diets have precise combinations amounts to take for certain periods of time. Some are more indicated for winter, others for summer and some again are for a specific health or emotional issue that you may want to address.
It is important that you accompany your mono diets with your daily practice as well as proper rest. The more intense the mono diet the more liquids and rest you will need.
You may encounter in the first 3 or 4 days of your mono diet that the resistance and discomfort in the body increases, however they soon pass as the body adjusts.
Mono diets are a must for people who want to heal the effects of recreation drugs, alcohol or minor stimulants.
To start a mono diet I suggest you choose a fortifying one ( mung dhal and rice) which will give your body a chance to detoxify slowly and safely.  Just starting with 3 or 4 days  will be enough for you to feel perceptive, clear and calm.

To go out of a 40 days mono  diet: start by cooking separately the white basmati rice and the mug dhal. Add the first 3 days one vegetable, can be carrots, squash or beets depending of your dosha. After 3 o 4 days incorporate quinoa and other vegetables. Avoid fruits for the first week. After 10 days you can have your normal vegetarian diet.
Keep your thriphala 2 cap. per day.
